Early Sierras suffered crosswind stability problems, which Ford addressed in 1985 with small spoilers called nolders on the rear edge of the rubber seals of the rearmost side windows. At the Geneva Motor Show in 1985 Ford showed the four wheel drive Sierra XR4x4, derived from the XR4i, which had two viscous differentials sending two thirds of the power to the rear wheels, and the XR4i was quickly taken out of production.
