From January 1988 the RS Cosworth was based on the newly introduced saloon body, with its own front bumper and a black grille found only on British saloons, and 13,140 of this Sapphire Cosworth were built before it was replaced in 1990. From 1988 a pickup called the P100 was produced in Portugal using the Sierra cab and engines, replacing the older Cortina and Taunus related model. The XR4x4 was now based on the five door hatchback.
