The second generation Toronado was more similar to the Cadillac Eldorado than the Buick Riviera, with all overall dimensions larger than before and a wheelbase increased from 119 to 122 inches, only 2 inches less than the full size Oldsmobile Delta 88. It is mainly noted for the early use of two safety features now standard on all cars in the United States, among them high mounted taillights. Its model years run from 1971 to 1978.
