The third generation Toronado was substantially downsized, losing nearly 1,000 pounds and almost 16 inches in length, and with its 206 inch length and 114 inch wheelbase it came equipped with the smaller Oldsmobile 350 cubic inch V8. Independent rear suspension, designed by Cadillac engineers, was adopted. It and its Riviera and Eldorado cousins were the last body on frame front wheel drive cars with longitudinally mounted V8 engines. Its model years run from 1979 to 1985.
