The Mountaineer was the first Mercury SUV, a mid size luxury SUV sold from 1996 until 2010 as the divisional counterpart of the Ford Explorer, marketed above the Explorer. It was assembled by Ford at Louisville Assembly in Kentucky and, before 2007, also at St. Louis Assembly in Hazelwood. It was built over three generations and ended with the closure of the Mercury brand in 2010. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in 3 generations: the first generation (1997 to 2001); the second generation (2002 to 2005); the third generation (2006 to 2010).
