Mercury Comet (fifth generation)

Automobiles

For 1971 the Comet name was revived on Mercury's version of the Ford Maverick compact, sharing most of its sheet metal with the Maverick but with a different grille, taillights, hood and badging. It was available as two and four door sedans in base and Comet GT forms, and the base engine was a 170 cubic inch six. It was offered with comparatively few changes through 1977 and then discontinued to make room for the Mercury Zephyr. Its model years run from 1971 to 1977.
