The third generation Mazda6 was unveiled in Moscow in August 2012, with the wagon following a month later in Paris, and it went on sale as a 2013 model. The design was previewed by the Shinari and Takeri concepts and was a finalist for World Design of the Year. It dropped the hatchback and was offered only as a four door sedan or a five door wagon. It stayed in production at Mazda's Hofu plant in Japan, after the Michigan plant closed, until the nameplate ended in 2024. Its model years run from 2013 to 2024.
