In 2014 the third generation Mazda6 was in production at the Hofu plant in Japan, since North American cars had moved there after the Michigan factory closed. The first generation car was also still being built in China by FAW, where more than 770,000 had been sold by 2014 and where its design was used as the base of the Bestune B70. The new car came as a four door sedan or a five door wagon only, with no hatchback.
