The third generation Mazda2, the DJ series, was unveiled in July 2014 with Mazda's Kodo design language, Skyactiv engines and a body and chassis loosely derived from the CX-5, and it won the 2014 to 2015 Japanese Car of the Year. It is longer and wider than before but has less rear seat room. Production began at the Hofu plant, the sedan followed, and the diesel was dropped in Europe in 2019. Facelifts came in 2019, with the Demio name replaced by Mazda2 in Japan, and in 2023. Its model years run from 2014 to 2025.
