After Toyota discontinued the Scion brand, the Mazda2 based sedan in the United States was renamed the Toyota Yaris iA for the 2017 model year, still built by Mazda in Mexico. In Mexico the same car was sold as the Yaris R in three versions, beside a lower priced Yaris sedan that was a variant of a different Toyota model. The Mazda branded Mazda2 carried on elsewhere with its Skyactiv engines, assembled in Japan and Thailand.
