The Durango had a single generation, designed and built as a prototype by Jim Stephenson and his sons in Pacoima, California, with a fiberglass bed and tailgate, and produced under licence by National Coach Works from the body of the Fairmont Futura coupe, with its roof, trunk lid and rear seat removed. Its model years run from 1979 to 1982. The Durango was a coupe utility conversion of the Fairmont Futura that Ford sold through its dealers in small numbers.
