The Durango of 1980 was not produced on an official basis, and was not considered the replacement for the Ranchero, which ended after the 1979 model year. It was closely related to the Fairmont Futura two door coupe, with a fiberglass pickup bed behind the two front seats. The Durango was a coupe utility conversion of the Fairmont Futura that Ford sold through its dealers in small numbers. It was built by National Coach Works of Los Angeles rather than on a Ford assembly line.
