The Aspen was introduced mid cycle for the 1976 model year as the successor to the Dodge Dart, and debuted the all new F platform, the first ground up redesign of Chrysler's compact line since 1960. It came as a four door sedan, a four door wagon or a two door coupe, with a thick B pillar where the Dart had a hardtop, and shared its engines and transmissions with the Plymouth Volare. Wind tunnel testing shaped its body, and a new transverse torsion bar front suspension improved ride. Its model years run from 1976 to 1980.
