For the final year of production, and at the insistence of Lee Iacocca, the Aspen and Volare were restyled with new front styling very like the Ford Fairmont, a thin grille and rectangular headlamps. The 360 V8 was dropped, leaving the 318 as the top engine. Total production was 67,318 Aspens, many of them fleet cars, and the last Aspen, an R/T, was built at Dodge Main on 4 January 1980. Many of the sales that year went to fleet buyers, with a significant share of the cars bought for police and taxi use.
