The eighth generation revived the Impala name for the 2000 model year, introduced on April 8, 1999, as a mainstream front wheel drive car on the W platform of the Lumina, built at Oshawa in Ontario. It was offered in two trim levels from 2000 to 2003, and an Impala SS with a supercharged 3.8 liter V6 arrived for the 2004 model year. Its model years run from 2000 to 2005. It was built at Oshawa Car Assembly in Ontario, Canada, on the W body platform of the Lumina, with a wheelbase three inches longer, and it was front wheel drive, unlike the earlier B body Impalas.
