The Impala was reintroduced for the 2000 model year, on April 8, 1999, as a mainstream front wheel drive sedan on the W platform of the Lumina, built at Oshawa Car Assembly in Ontario, Canada. It was considered full size by cars.com and mid size by Consumer Guide, and it had a wheelbase three inches longer than the Lumina, with two trim levels offered. A choice of two engines was offered, and the car was front wheel drive, unlike the B body Impalas of earlier years.
