The 2002 Impala was offered in two trim levels, as in 2000 to 2003, the base model with the 3.4 liter LA1 V6 of 180 horsepower. It was a front wheel drive sedan on the W platform and was built at Oshawa in Ontario, Canada. The wheelbase was three inches longer than the mid size Lumina's, although the car was an inch shorter overall. Like the other cars of its generation it had a choice of two V6 engines, and it was categorized as full size or as mid size depending on who measured it.
