The original DW model went on to be produced in the Colombia plant of Mazda as the Mazda Demio until the end of 2007, after the Japanese production ended in 2002. The Demio of 2003 was in its first year of Colombian only production, a tall hatchback minivan like car of the DW platform that had been the Mazda 121 outside Japan and Europe, while the second generation Demio, called Mazda2 abroad, was sold elsewhere. The name Demio is derived from the Latin meus, to show possession, which in many Romance languages has become mio.
