Production of the first generation Demio ended in July 2002 and after that only stock was sold, and in August 2002 sales ended when it was replaced by the second generation. The first generation was replaced in 2002, as the English article says, as Mazda changed the platform and the engine of the second generation, which was sold abroad as the Mazda2. The first generation had lifted Mazda out of its management crisis after the failure of the multi channel plan.
