The 2001 EL was completely redesigned and based on the seventh-generation Civic. Its 1.7 litre VTEC four-cylinder was slightly more powerful and torquier, still rated at 127 horsepower, and its own headlights, tail lights and available leather interior set it apart from the Civic. The badging became Acura 1.7EL. It also had 15 inch multi-spoke alloys, heated power mirrors, cruise control and rear disc brakes.
