The second-generation EL was redesigned for 2001 on the seventh-generation Civic and set apart by its own headlights, tail lights and an available leather interior. A 1.7 litre VTEC four-cylinder of 127 horsepower powered it, with 15 inch alloys, heated power mirrors, cruise control and rear disc brakes. It came in touring and premium trims, the latter adding leather, heated front seats and a power sunroof, and a 2004 makeover restyled the nose and rear.
