The 2000 Acura EL was the last model year of the first generation, a Civic-based sedan with its own front end, lights and interior parts. It kept the 1.6 litre VTEC engine with 127 horsepower and a slightly stiffer suspension than the Civic, with sway bars of 12 millimetres at the rear and 26 millimetres at the front. The EL remained Acura Canada's top seller, and the redesigned second generation followed for 2001.
