The Taunus and the Cortina were rebadged variants of each other for most of their lives, differing primarily in the steering wheel placement, and by 1991 only the Turkish Otosan Taunus was still being built. It was made in Turkey at the Ford Otosan plant, with a Pinto engine. It was named after the Taunus mountain range in Germany and was often a close relative of a British Ford. The Taunus was the family car of Ford Germany, sold under the 12M, 15M, 17M, 20M and 26M names over several generations.
