In Malaysia the Telstar went back on the market in March 1988 after a short break, assembled by Amim Holdings, as a 1.8 litre manual Ghia sedan or a 2.0 litre automatic TX5 hatchback. In Indonesia the car was sold as the Telstar Grand and the Telstar Thunder. The Telstar was a Mazda 626 with Ford badges and some local styling, sold where Ford wanted a mid size car. Ford later replaced it in most markets with the Mondeo, which was developed as a world car.
