The 1986 model year was the first for the Acura Integra, which went on sale in North America as one of the two launch cars of the new Acura brand, next to the Legend. The car had already debuted in Japan a year earlier as the Honda Quint Integra, and in the United States only the liftback was sold. Its twin-cam 1.6 litre four-cylinder engine was the feature the press made most of, because multi-valve engines were uncommon in entry-level cars at the time.
