For the 1981 model year Ford introduced a second generation of the Granada, which moved to the larger mid size segment even though its exterior footprint decreased, shedding an inch in length, four inches in wheelbase and about 300 pounds. In the shift from the Falcon chassis to the Fox chassis the suspension and steering were modernized. It was sold as a two door and four door sedan, and the Cougar replaced the Monarch as the Mercury counterpart.
