For 1982 a five door station wagon was introduced, transferring the body style from the Fairmont line, and the inline six was replaced by a 3.8 liter Essex V6. The 1982 Granada was among the first American cars of its time to wear the blue oval emblem again. Then for 1983, in a realignment of the Ford and Mercury lines, the Granada nameplate was withdrawn and the car became the Ford LTD, which the Taurus displaced after 1986.
