The second generation Eterna appeared in May 1980 and the name lost the Galant prefix to become Eterna Sigma. A small front radiator grille and different taillamps set it apart from the Galant Sigma. In the early sales the image song was sung by Tomoko Kuwae, and in October the image character became the actress Tomoko Hoshino, with a catch phrase of Natchan no Eterna. The Eterna was a sister car of the Galant, sold at the Car Plaza stores of Mitsubishi while the Galant was sold at the Galant stores.
