In Australia in 1973, to supplement the two Essex V4 engines available, the Transit was released with a long nose diesel front used to accommodate an inline six cylinder engine derived from the Ford Falcon. The first generation was in its eighth year with its York diesel in place of the Perkins, and was built at Southampton, Genk and later Amsterdam, the Dutch plant that built Transits for the local market from the mid 1970s.
