The Transit was assembled in South Africa between 1967 and 1974, and the 1974 model was the last Transit sold there until a fully imported model returned in 2013. Elsewhere production continued at Southampton and Genk, with Amsterdam starting local production for the Dutch market in the middle of the decade. The first generation Transit remained largely unaltered, nearly nine years after its October 1965 debut.
