1972 Subaru R-2

Automobiles

The R-2 ended in 1972 and was replaced by the all new Subaru Rex, which was available as a two door and a four door. Its cancellation came early, partly because its handling was found to be less stable than that of rival cars with the engine in front driving the front wheels. Subaru launched a spiritual successor, the Subaru R2, in 2003. Subaru continued with a rear engine platform to afford more trunk space up front and provide seating for four passengers.
