The Transit received a minor facelift for the 1971 model year, which brought updated front end styling on the V4 engined models, while the pig snout diesel and V6 models remained as they were. It was the only facelift of the first generation in twelve years. The van was still built at Southampton and Genk, and its production had begun at Langley, a former aircraft factory in Berkshire. Overall, production of this platform lasted for over twenty years before the VE6 replaced it in 1986.
