In 1970 the Transit was in its fifth year, built at Southampton, Genk and elsewhere, with Essex V4 petrol and Perkins diesel engines, and a minor facelift with updated front end styling for the V4 engined models would follow for the 1971 model year. The van was a favorite of tradesmen and, a little later, of bank robbers: the Metropolitan Police reported in 1972 that Transits were used in 95 percent of bank raids.
