The Transit of 1969 was a van built at Southampton and Genk with a long production run ahead of it, staying largely unaltered for twelve years. It was marketed originally in Western Europe and Australia and was also assembled from kits in South Africa from 1967. The first generation had the longest production run of any Transit to date, with a single minor facelift for the 1971 model year. The Transit family would later grow to include passenger vans, minibuses, cutaway chassis and pickups.
