The Taunus 12M of 1954 kept the retention of an old side valve engine from the first Taunus series at a time when competitors were moving to overhead valve units, something it had in common with British Fords. It was the only Taunus model in the line at the time, with a 1172 cc engine. The Taunus was the family car of Ford Germany, sold under the 12M, 15M, 17M, 20M and 26M names over several generations. It was named after the Taunus mountain range in Germany and was often a close relative of a British Ford.
