The FX4 was the London taxi sold by Austin from 1958, successor to the FX3, and for decades the most widely used cab in London. Austin designed it with the dealers Mann and Overton, who paid half the cost, and Carbodies, which built the body and assembled the cab. Carbodies took over the rights in 1982 when British Leyland lost interest, and London Taxis International built it to 1997, when the TX1 replaced it. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in 2 generations: the FX4 and FX4D under Austin (1958 to 1982); the FX4R under Carbodies and London Taxis International (1982 to 1997).
