Shelby

Vehicle and Equipment Manufacturers

Shelby is the marque under which Shelby American, the high performance car company founded by the racing driver Carroll Shelby in Venice, California, in 1962, has sold its cars. The name first went on Cobra roadsters, which put an American Ford V8 engine into a British AC Cars body, and then on the Daytona coupe that won the 1965 international championship for GT manufacturers. Shelby later put its badge on high performance Mustangs developed with Ford, on Dodge based sports compacts of the 1980s built by Shelby Automobiles, on the Oldsmobile powered Series 1 roadster of 1999, and on continuation Cobras and modern Mustang and truck packages. Several legally distinct corporations have used the Shelby American name over the decades.
