Merkur was a North American brand of automobiles sold by the Lincoln-Mercury division of Ford Motor Company for the 1985 to 1989 model years. The name is the German word for Mercury. Ford created the brand in November 1983 to reach buyers of European executive cars, and it marketed two imported models built by the German arm of Ford of Europe, the XR4Ti hatchback and the Scorpio hatchback. Lincoln-Mercury withdrew it after the 1989 model year, one year longer than the Edsel lasted.
