The Astra was sold as a Holden first in New Zealand in 1995, and then in Australia in 1996. The Holden Astra nameplate had originally been placed on a rebadged Nissan Pulsar, first sold in Australia in 1984. The Vauxhall Astra Mark 3, released in October 1991, was built at Vauxhall's plant at Ellesmere Port in Cheshire and was the Vauxhall badged version of the Opel Astra F. The 1995 Astra was sold in New Zealand as a Holden.
