Automobiles

The second generation Celica was released for the 1978 model year, with production beginning in August 1977, again in notchback coupe and liftback forms. Early cars had round headlights and chrome bumpers for lower grades, and a facelift in August 1979 brought square headlights and revised tail lights. Motor Trend named it Import Car of the Year for 1978, the six cylinder Celica XX began production in April 1978, and the four door Celica Camry was launched in Japan in January 1980.
