The R2 of 2004 was in its second year, a kei car sold in Japan with a four cylinder 658 cc engine as a SOHC, a DOHC with variable valve timing, or, in the R2 Type S, a DOHC with a supercharger and intercooler. The two lower engines came with a manual or a CVT, and the supercharged one with a sportshift CVT called the 7 speed iCVT, in front or all wheel drive. The R2 was initially available in 11 colors and 3 trim levels, one for each engine variation.
