The third-generation Range Rover, internally L322, ran from 2001 to 2012. It was planned under BMW, which meant it to share parts with the BMW 7 Series, but Ford had bought Land Rover from BMW two years before production began. It was the first Range Rover to use a unitary body, with independent air suspension at all four wheels and automatic transmission only. BMW V8 and diesel engines gave way to Jaguar-derived V8s from 2006, a Ford-built TDV8 diesel in 2007 and new 5.0-litre petrol V8s with a refreshed look in 2010.
