For the 2003 model year the new Range Rover was one of only three full-size SUVs with four-wheel independent suspension, the others being the Mitsubishi Montero and the also new Ford Expedition. It was fitted in North America with the 4.4-litre BMW V8 and was sold with a navigation system, rearview camera and wireless mobile phone link as part of its equipment. The electronics were based on the BMW E39 5 Series system, as in other cars up to 2004.
