The Cordia was fitted into the Mitsubishi range between the Starion, Galant and Lancer in 1982, with front wheel drive and a design like that of the smaller Mirage, though larger, and with a deeper dashboard that wrapped around the driver. It used strut front suspension, front disc brakes and a choice of three engines, among them a turbocharged 1.6 liter, and later 1.8 and 2.0 liter engines. It was assembled in New Zealand and was a hit in Australia. Its model years run from 1982 to 1990.
