The last form of the Australian GSR, the AC model, was officially released on 1 January 1986 to meet the government's new emissions rules and was heavily detuned for 91 octane unleaded fuel. Output fell by almost a fifth, which noticeably reduced the performance of both the naturally aspirated and the turbocharged Cordia. The Cordia was one of the first mass-market cars to offer an optional electronic instrument cluster using a liquid-crystal display.
