In 1987 the Cordia was in its sixth year, sold most successfully in Australia and New Zealand because of its performance for the price. The version for the United States had deeper bumpers for low speed crash resistance, which were also used on the turbocharged cars sold in New Zealand, where the car was built from kits with local glass and upholstery. The Cordia used front-wheel drive and was similar in design to the Mirage, with the exception of its larger size.
