The Dodge Omni and Plymouth Horizon were the first front wheel drive Chrysler vehicles and the first American cars sold with front wheel drive and a transverse mounted four cylinder engine. They were the central model lines of the Chrysler L platform, an evolution of the Chrysler Horizon designed by Chrysler Europe, and heavily inspired by the Volkswagen Rabbit. Overshadowed by the K cars, the Omni and Horizon saw few running changes over eleven years of production. Its model years run from 1978 to 1990.
