The Capri nameplate was marketed by Lincoln Mercury in North America over three generations between 1970 and 1994. First it was the German built Ford Capri sold as a captive import with no Ford or Mercury branding, until 1978. From 1979 to 1986 it was the Mercury pony car cousin of the Mustang, and from 1991 to 1994 an Australian built front wheel drive roadster. The European Capri, the Lincoln Capri and the Mercury Comet Capri trim are separate histories. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in 4 generations: the Capri, first generation (1970 to 1975); the Capri II (1976 to 1978); the second generation (1979 to 1986); the third generation (1991 to 1994).
