For 1994 the Capri received new tail lights, bumpers and wheel designs, the only substantial update of the third generation. The Mercury Capri was sold under two trim levels during its entire production, base trim and XR2, distinguished largely by the powertrain. The 1994 Capri was the last, produced by Ford of Australia as a captive import and marketed in North America by Lincoln Mercury. It was produced by Ford of Australia for export to the United States.
