The 1974 models were the last full size cars Chrysler designed from the ground up, with an even more massive slab sided body in the Lincoln mold that arrived just as the 1973 oil embargo began, which hurt Chrysler. The 1976 New Yorker took over the front and rear styling of the discontinued Imperial, the Lean Burn system came in 1977, and the last true pillarless hardtops of American production were the 1978 New Yorker Broughams. Its model years run from 1974 to 1978.
